EDUCATIONAL TRANSFORMATION : INTEGRATION OF THE AL-QUR’AN AND SCIENCE IN THE DIGITAL ERA

In a recent webinar organized by Muhammadiyah University, August, 15 2023 scholars and experts came together to delve into the profound concept of “Tafsir Tajdid Muhammadiyah” – the interpretative renewal within the Muhammadiyah movement.
The virtual event, titled “Exploring Tafsir Tajdid Muhammadiyah: A Renewed Understanding,” brought together academics, to discuss the unique approach that Muhammadiyah has taken towards interpreting religious texts. The aim was to shed light on the movement’s perspectives, principles, and methodologies in interpreting the Quran and Hadith in the modern context.

Dr. Ainur Rhain, a renowned scholar in qur’an tafsir Studies FAI UMS, emphasized that Tafsir Tajdid Muhammadiyah is rooted in the spirit of rejuvenating Islamic teachings for contemporary challenges. “Muhammadiyah’s approach to interpretation reflects its commitment to upholding Islamic values while adapting to the evolving world,” Dr. Ainur Rhain.
Renowned scholar Dr. Nashwan Khaled (head qur’an &sunnah IIUM Malaysia) recently delivered a thought-provoking lecture on innovative approaches to Islamic education in the modern era. The virtual event, titled “Revitalizing Islamic Education: Exploring New Methods,” captivated audiences as Dr. Khaled shared his insights on the evolving landscape of teaching and learning within an Islamic framework.
During his lecture, Dr. Khaled emphasized the significance of adapting traditional methods to meet the needs of contemporary learners. He highlighted the importance of engaging students through interactive and practical methods, fostering critical thinking and a deeper understanding of Islamic teachings.
“Today’s educational environment demands a balance between preserving the rich heritage of Islamic education and embracing the tools and techniques of the digital age,” Dr. Khaled stated. He underscored that Islamic education should empower students to navigate the complexities of the modern world while upholding the values of compassion, ethics, and community responsibility.
